JoDee and I are at Karlyn's for a couple of days and we spent the day running around. I was busy with the camera and snapped 178 photos today. This one is by far my favorite and it was taken by my nephew. Can you tell that we are sisters??

088:365 Wind Towers
JoDee and I drove to California on Tuesday to visit Karlyn. We drove through Palm Springs and were able to see all of the wind towers along the highway. WOW!! The photos were all drive by's since we had just gotten out of a traffic jam that lasted over an hour. We ran across two traffic jams yesterday caused by accidents. The first one lasted about half an hour and the second one about an hour. That really adds to the driving time. We will be heading back home on Friday, so maybe I will be able to stop then and get a few decent shots.

087:365 Books
I really thought that retirement would bring me lots of time for reading, but boy was I wrong. We are running all the time. I used to laugh at people that said they never had a day off when they retired, but I totally understand now what that means. Currently I am half way through The Help and I have been reading it for more than three weeks already. It is a good book but the only time that I have to read is right before bed, and by then I am exhausted and can't make it through very much before I am fast asleep. Maybe when I get back home I will have more time??

085:365 Hiking
Gina invited me to go hiking with the hiking club from her church. We went on a 5.3 mile hike in the McDowell mountain range. It was a great time. We did run across two rattlesnakes on the trail. The first one we knew was there (some hikers headed back had warned us) so we were expecting that. The second one I heard rattle as I walked by the bush. Needless to say, I have inherited my mother's fear of snakes and I jumped and ran. Gina was behind me and stopped and slowly backed up (just like you're supposed to do). She and a few others behind her saw that snake and took a few photos. Me, I never actually saw the snake and there was no way that I was going to go back and take any photos. I also ran by the spot on the way back down the mountain, but I believe that the snake was gone by that time.
Other than the snakes, this was an absolutely beautiful hike. I am definitely going to try a few more trails before we leave here.
082:365 Quentin & Joyce
Last week we decided to head to Yuma to visit Jeff's brother and sister-in-law and my mom. It's kind of ironic (and really nice) how our families have ended up in the same general areas. We both have family in the Yuma area and in the Phoenix area. This is Quentin & Joyce in their back yard. We had a really nice time visiting with them.

080:365 Back Yard
It rained all day today, so we spent the day indoors. We went to Lavonne's this afternoon to play cards and have supper. After supper we went to see The Tourist. It's nice to go to a movie here, as it's only $2.00 to get in. If you go on Tuesdays it's only $1.00. Can't beat a deal like that I guess.

078:365 Luke Days - Luke Air Force Base
Luke Days at Luke Air Force Base was by far the best air show that we have seen. We were able to go with Gary, JoDee and Gary's sister. We had VIP tickets which allowed us to bypass all of the traffic getting to the base and park in a special parking lot. Then we were treated to a special brunch at the commander's check-in and able to ride the bus out to the field and enjoy the airshow from the commander's tent where we received royal treatment. This is a photo of the heritage flight. It's not as sharp as I would like, but Jeff was really impressed by this and told me that this one would have to be my POTD.

075:365 Track Meet
This is Hunter, my niece's son. (Does that make him my grand nephew or great nephew?) Anyhoo, we spent the morning at his track meet. Here he is jumping in the long jump. What I love about this photo is his mother in the background. I think that she's trying to jump with him!?! =D I wonder who had the longer distance? LOL

071:365 Ostrich Festival
We spent the day at the Ostrich Festival in Chandler, AZ. It was just like a county fair. We enjoyed the day with JoDee and Gary eating lots of fattening fair food and watching actual ostrich races. Afterward we walked down the midway, but none of us were brave enough to go on the rides. Here, Jeff is sitting in a dune buggy acting goofy.

070:365 Sunset
This view is actually across a golf course at Sunland Village. Jeff & I had supper with Lavonne and Lefty out on the patio of the restaurant. The sun was setting as we were enjoying our meal. After supper we went to a movie and saw The Fighter. I generally don't like movies with boxing, but this one turned out to be very enjoyable.

068:365 Ocean
When Jeff and I were trying to decide where to spend the winter, he kept telling me that he wanted to be by the ocean, that he loves the water. Well, we did spend a few weeks right on the beach and we had a great time. Then we decided to head west and spend some time in Arizona, as we both have family living here. Jeffs' sister Gina found us a nice house to rent for a couple of months and it's obvious that she has also heard Jeff say that he wants to be by the ocean. Gina is very generous and left Jeff this really nice housewarming gift. I guess that she decided if Jeff couldn't go to the ocean, she would bring the ocean to him. I wonder if it's salt water in there? =D

061:365 Munchkin #3
We were lucky enough to spend a few days with the little munchkins last week. I didn't get very good photos of either of them, but I love this one of Macy. They were both so excited for us to be there, and we made good use of our time. We played lots of football, games, legos, and even found time to make playdough. We were busy from the time that we woke up in the morning until we went to bed at night. We really had a great time.
