2012 087:366 Dime

Jeff's family places a great deal of significance on found dimes. They are a sign of good luck or of making the right decision. I know that I always smile when I find one. I found this dime on the beach yesterday in the sand, so I'm sure that it is very good luck. Today I purchased some lottery tickets. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Day 057: Iguana (Own Theme)

2012 086:366 Iguana

This is an iguana that lives at the condo complex where we are staying. We haven't seen them yet, but we knew that they were here. We stayed at the condo most of the day today, hanging out at the pool and they both decided to make an appearance. They are kind of cool, but I wouldn't want to live with one. I did learn one thing today though, that we need to start shutting the screen on the sliding glass door, as they will come inside the condo. That is something that I don't need to see.

Day 056: Toys

2012 085:366 Hitting Balls Around

Today we went to the driving range at the golf course on the east end of the island. It was hot out and by the time we were done, I was ready to be done. We had a good time though and now we can say that we've "golfed" on the most eastern golf course in the US. On the way home, we stopped at the boardwalk in Christiansted and shopped for a while. Then we came home and walked down the beach to go snorkeling. The wind is out of the east today, and the waters are really calm. It's been a great day.

Day 054: Path

Day 053: Something Sweet

Day 052: Four Legs

Day 051: Art

2012 084:366 Gift from Royal

Royal is the manager here at the condos where we are staying in St. Croix. He's a very nice man, and works very hard. He has worked here for more than 28 years. This afternoon he saw me walking around and told me to come with him, as he had a surprise for me. He had made me this lighted shell. I was so surprised and so grateful. What a nice thing to do!!

2012 083:366 Botanical Garden

There was an art show this weekend at the Botanical Garden that I have been looking forward to all week. I was very excited when we got there, as it had just finished raining and it was still cloudy, so I thought that it would be a perfect for photography. We paid the entrance fee and went to the first couple of exhibits, then the skies really let loose. We made our way to the Great Hall to wait it out, as most of the rains here are gone as soon as they start. Not this storm. It poured and poured and poured. It finally let up after about an hour so we went to visit a couple of more exhibits, then the rains started again and we headed back to the Great Hall. After waiting about half an hour, we decided that we would make a run for it to the entrance and have to come back to the Botanical Gardens another day. We spent the rest of the day touring Frederiksted, the beaches on the west end and the Rain Forest. It ended up being a really nice day!

2012 082:366 Whim Plantation

Today we took a tour of Whim Plantation. It's really interesting to read about the history of the island and the people of the island. They used to raise a lot of sugar cane and made sugar, molasses and rum.

2012 081:366 At Buccaneer

We went to Shoy Beach today to do a little snorkeling, then stopped at the Buccaneer for lunch on our way home. This is a nice beach, but the snorkeling was not very good here. We really didn't see very many fishes at all.

2012 080:366 A Real Barber Haircut

Jeff got a buzz cut today from a real old fashioned barber. This is Salvadore, and his barber shop has been in his family since 1870. Now that's some history!

2012 079:366 Cane Bay

We drove over to Cane Bay this afternoon and the snorkeling was fantastic. There are all kinds of things to see there, and it's a great beach. Jeff is really enjoying the snorkeling. He can spend hours out there watching the little fishes.

2012 079:366 St. Croix Yacht Club

We went out exploring today and stopped by the St. Croix Yacht Club to check things out and see if there was a sailboat charter that we could go out on. That is Buck Island in the background.

2012 077:366 Crab

These things are all over the beaches down here. Ain't he cute?? And he's FAST!!

What are the odds???

I don't know what it is about me, but I notice license plates, even if they are not vanity plates. A few years ago while I was on my overnight to Hettinger, I found a car with the next sequentially numbered plate from mine, ie: HJG 285 and HJG 286. As it turns out, the person that owned that car was also from Wilton, down in Hettinger doing some construction work after a big hail storm. Well, here we are in St. Croix with a rental car, and look at the license plates. The car on the left is ours and the car on the right has the next sequentially numbered plate. I took a statistics class in college a few years ago, but I don't even know where to begin to figure out the odds of this happening twice in my lifetime. Maybe I should be buying a lottery ticket?!?

2012 076:366 St. Patricks Day Parade

St. Patricks Day is a big celebration here in Christiansted. They have a big parade and parties all up and down the streets and boardwalk. The marina was full and the streets were full and a good time was had by all.

2012 075:366 Sunset in Frederiksted

Jeff and I drove to Frederiksted this evening for a jazz concert and sunset on the beach. It turned out to be a perfect evening and a beautiful sunset. I had to drive home in the dark though, and that was a little challenging, but we made it just fine.

2012 074:365 Life in the Left Lane

Driving on St. Croix is a little challenging, as they drive on the left side of the road. At least there are reminders everywhere that I go. I also have to remind myself every time that I get in the car to drive on the left. Making a right hand turn is what is really nerve racking.

2012 073:366 Downtown Christiansted

This is one of the buildings in the old part of downtown Christiansted. I just love the architecture of all of the buildings and all the textures. It's definitely a fun place to walk around and observe.

2012 072:366 Ahhhhh.....

2012 071:366 St. Croix

This is the view from our condo. I think that I can handle this for a while.

2012 070:366 Fish, it's what for dinner...

We went to the Everglades today with Mary's bird club. We found a crowd of people gathered around this bird trying to eat a fish that he had just caught. He just picked the darn thing up and swallowed it whole. It was pretty cool to watch. And you should have heard all of the camera shutters just snapping away.

2012 069:366 And, they're off....

Ted, Mary, Jeff and I spen the day at the Gulfstream Racetrack in Miami. I love going to the races and yelling for your horse to come in. I didn't get to do much yelling today though, as it seems that every horse that I picked came in last or nearly last place. Me thinks that me needs a different strategy, eh??

2012 068:366 Happy Birthday Mary

It's Mary's birthday tomorrow, but we are celebrating it tonight. We went to a restaurant where they have wooden mallets on the table and when your food comes, you just pound the heck out of it until the shell breaks, then you can have at it. It was a lot of fun and really good.

2012 067:366 Banana Tree Flower

I am not sure, but I think that this is the flower from a banana tree. It's kind of cool, not matter what it is though.

2012 066:366 Mary & Lola

We are back in Miramar for a bit. I think that Lola missed Jeff. =D

2012 065:366 Mess

It was a really busy day today, trying to get everything ready for our trip. I snapped this photo when I picked up the camera, and as it turns out, this is the only photo that I took all day.

2012 064:366 Shadows

Late afternoon shadows in the yard.
