I spent the morning playing pickle ball, then catching up on
posting my photos and my blog. Dona and I then spent the afternoon running
errands and shopping. This is the material that I picked up to use for the
inside of the camera travel bag that Dona is going to help me make.

2015.01.13 Fortuna Mine
We spent the afternoon on the four wheelers again playing in
the desert. Dona and Jeff really want to find gold, so we headed out to Barry
Goldwater and up to Fortuna Mine to do a little digging there. From the mine we
headed a little bit deeper in to the mountains so that Mike could show us a
water hole that he had found. Jeff and I
were expecting a little lake or a pond because Mike had told us that there were
fish in there. We were a little bit surprised at what was there and I had a
good laugh. It ended up being something similar to a water trough, but it
certainly did have fish in there, even if they were smaller than a minnow. We kept hunting for gold, but there was none
to be found today.
2015.01.12 San Diego and Joke-a-Day
Mom and I went to San Diego today to see the doctor. We
stopped at In-N-Out in El Centro on the way home. I love me a good In-N-Out burger. I also try to send my grand kids a joke every day, so I am collecting jokes to make a stockpile.
2015.01.11 Desert Fun
Dona, Mike, Jeff and I took the four wheelers out to play
around in the desert for a while this afternoon. Mike took us over to a place where people
have put the miles down to different destinations. I’m thinking that I will have to add Wilton
to the mix. Covina (where I grew up) is on there. It started to rain a little
bit while we were out, so Dona and I spent the rest of the afternoon running
errands and shopping. We ended up getting more than a quarter of an inch.
2015.01.10 Football Day
We started off the day looking for a place to watch the NDSU
Bison championship game against Illinois.
Dona and Mike picked us up and we headed over to a sports bar that is
close to here, but when we walked inside we discovered that all of the TV’s
were little, even though there were a lot of them. We decided to head over to the bar at the
park and see if they had the game on. There
was another couple there from Underwood and another couple came in from Center.
It turned out to be a great game that went down to the wire and NDSU won their
fourth championship in a row.
After that, we headed over to Dona and Mike’s to watch the
Seahawks playoff game. The Seahawks ended up winning also, so it was a GREAT
day for all of us.

2015.01.09 Lake Mitri
Jeff bought a boat down in Yuma. His plan is to make sure and go out at least once a week and get some use out of the boat. We spent the afternoon at Lake Mitri, which is about 20 miles from us. It's a nice little lake and we end up having the entire lake to ourselves. I guess that winter is winter no matter where you are and the locals put their boats away. Someone forgot to tell Jeff that it was winter here though. =D
Actually we love spending time with our friends and it was a beautiful afternoon.
"Ok Robyn, enough with the camera already!"
This is a little island oasis in the middle of the lake.
Beautiful sunset as we were putting the boat away.
2015.01.08 Falling Rock
I think that I need to start this blog post with a joke that
Dona and I heard last year.
There was a snowbird in Yuma that went on a hike out in the
desert with two Indian guides. They were
hiking along and came upon a cave. The first Indian guide yelled in to the cave,
“woo hoo, woo hoo”. He could very
faintly hear a “woo hoo, woo hoo” back, so he tore off all his clothes and ran
in to the cave. The snowbird asked the
second Indian guide what that was all about and the guide explained that when
you yell in to the cave like that and get an answer back that means that there
is a fair Indian maiden waiting for you inside.
The snowbird and the Indian guide hiked up a little bit
further and came across a second cave that was a little bit bigger. The Indian guide
yelled in to the cave “woo hoo, woo hoo” and he heard and answer back, “woo
hoo, woo hoo”, so he tore off all his clothes and ran in to the cave.
Well the snowbird thought that was pretty cool and continued
on his hike. It wasn’t long before he came upon an even bigger cave and yelled
in to the cave “woo hoo, woo hoo”. Imagine
his excitement when he heard back a really loud “woo hoo, woo hoo”. He tore off
all his clothes and ran in to the cave.
The headline in the Yuma sun the next day read “Local
Snowbird Hit by Train”.
The same afternoon that we heard the joke, the four of us
were sitting outside enjoying an ice cream cone and Jeff starting telling us
about the caves that he had seen earlier in the day when he had been out
exploring in the desert. Of course, Dona and I started cracking up and then had
to fill the guys in on the joke that we had heard earlier that day. Now,
whenever we go to the other’s house, we woo hoo to announce our presence. It
always brings a smile to our face.
Fast forward a few days; Jeff and I came home and found this
green thing that was shaped like the upper portion of a body and had been used
for target practice. Dona and Mike had found her out in the desert and thought
that Jeff needed to have her. She came with a nice little letter telling Jeff
that she had finally found her home. Falling Rock was born. A smiling face was
painted on and she rode around the four wheeler whenever she could right beside
Jeff.
This year she has been dressed in a bikini and a babushka.
Her bikini top is a pair of men’s briefs that has been transformed and she has
been bejeweled with dazzling sapphires. She travels back and forth between Jeff’s
and Mike’s and has been the source of many good laughs. I am looking forward to seeing what her next
adventures will be and where she will end up spending her summer.
